A Telegram MCP server gives an agent access to Telegram through a community connector, using either the Bot API or a signed-in user account. Telegram provides the official Bot API; the MCP projects discussed below are independent implementations. For a Telegram AI agent bot, start with permitted context and local drafts, and leave sending to a human.
What it can do
A useful starting task is preparing a reply from a deliberately selected conversation excerpt. Ask for a short draft, unresolved questions and references to the source messages. A channel editor could similarly prepare an announcement from an approved brief, then check links and wording before publishing manually.
Check content rights before connecting. As of 30 Oct 2026, Telegram's content licensing terms broadly prohibit using platform data for AI development and deployment, including scraping and aggregation. Exceptions may be granted where every relevant user gives explicit, informed, affirmative and continued consent for the specific content and context. Owning a channel or accessing a chat does not establish that exception. These examples assume an applicable permitted use; otherwise work from a separately authorized brief without importing Telegram content.
For a support desk, a bounded draft could identify what information is missing from an enquiry without promising a refund or delivery date. For a channel team, it could compare an approved announcement brief with a style checklist. Keep the result in an editor file, with the intended destination and any uncertain facts beside it. Treat these as proposed workflows, not built-in Telegram features.
More examples belong in the MCP servers for apps category. The MCP versus API guide explains the architectural distinction: adding a connector does not itself establish authorization.
Which Telegram MCP servers exist
The following repository descriptions were reviewed as of 30 Oct 2026. They identify implementation approaches, not endorsed products or a security ranking.
| Community project | Documented approach | Practical consequence |
|---|---|---|
| chigwell/telegram-mcp | Uses Telethon for account, chat and message operations, including reading and writing | Review account-session exposure and disable mutations before giving an agent access |
| guangxiangdebizi/telegram-mcp | Wraps the Bot API; documents messaging, media, deletion and chat-information tools | Its documented tool list does not establish a conversation-history reader; check the current implementation |
Do not select a server by its name alone. A Telegram MCP search can lead to substantially different authentication and access patterns. Telegram's official API documentation and a community project's README answer different questions: what the platform supports, and what that particular connector implements. Neither proves the connector is suitable for your data.
Bot context is different from account access
Telegram's bot introduction explains that ordinary bots cannot initiate conversations with users, and group privacy mode limits what they see by default. A bot token therefore does not turn an agent into your personal Telegram account. The account-based project above instead requires review of a user-session connection.
For channel context, check actual membership, permissions and supported update handling. The Bot API defines channel-post updates, but receiving updates is not equivalent to retrieving an arbitrary historical conversation. Verify the specific read path before designing a digest around it.
Choose the narrowest input that answers the task. An approved brief may be sufficient for an announcement draft; full chat access adds exposure without necessarily adding useful evidence.
How to connect it safely
-
Define the permitted task. Write down the source, purpose, destination and reviewer. Resolve Telegram's content-use conditions before importing messages. If you cannot establish a permitted use, stop the import and prepare a draft from an independent brief.
-
Review the connector before running it. Read its current repository, authentication flow, installation instructions and exposed tools. Check who receives credentials and message text. Prefer a setup where secrets stay outside the model-visible tool arguments; reject a design that requires pasting them into chat. Follow the MCP server security checklist for the broader review.
-
Prepare an isolated test context. For the bot route, register through BotFather and protect the token using the official bot setup guidance. Use a dedicated test conversation containing invented, non-sensitive material. For an account connector, examine session storage and the account identity before proceeding; do not assume bot-token instructions apply.
-
Add the server to a compatible editor client. In VS Code, run
MCP: Add Serverand supply the reviewed publisher command or endpoint. Follow the current VS Code MCP instructions, including trust and authentication prompts. Configuration format and available controls depend on the selected client environment; do not paste another client's example unchanged. See MCP in VS Code for background. -
Enforce the draft boundary. Expose only the reads needed for the test, with a server-side chat allowlist where supported. Remove send, edit, delete, forward and membership-changing operations from the agent's available interface. A prompt asking for drafts is insufficient if the same process can still send through another tool or shell. If effective restrictions are unavailable, use manually prepared context instead.
-
Inspect the evidence, then send manually. Check the actual tool output and draft against the permitted source. Confirm the recipient, account, channel, links and attachments. Have the responsible person copy the approved text into Telegram and send it. Keep credentials out of the draft and review record.
When this does not work
Missing context. Privacy settings or access permissions may explain an empty result. Do not automatically grant administrator access or switch to a personal account. First establish whether the intended input is available through the chosen interface and permitted for the task.
Broken update ingestion. Telegram documents polling and webhooks as mutually exclusive. Pending updates are retained for no longer than 24 hours, according to the Bot API documentation, checked as of 30 Oct 2026. Plan for gaps and duplicates; do not present an incomplete digest as a complete record.
Unwanted outreach. A technically available send operation does not establish recipient consent. Telegram's spam FAQ warns that unwanted messages and unsolicited group additions can lead to account restrictions, with repeated offences bringing stronger restrictions. Do not use a connector for cold-message campaigns.
Telegram's API terms also prohibit actions on a user's behalf without their knowledge and consent. Our draft-only workflow keeps the final communication decision explicit.
Untrusted message content. A message can contain an instruction to publish secrets or contact another chat. Treat it as source material. Reject any workflow in which imported text can expand the destination list, enable tools or authorize sending.
Where Tvijo fits
As of 30 Oct 2026, the DSHREM VS Code extension can submit a question with deliberately attached editor context. Where Telegram content use is permitted, a selected excerpt or channel brief can support a draft. Review permissions and data flow before attaching it: submitted context leaves the workstation for processing.
TvijoCode is described as a test build with the extension embedded. Tvijo MCP exposes Tvijo consultation; supplied-diff review is prepared with publication pending in the dated release account. Editor integration and delegation are planned separately. These capabilities do not establish a ready Telegram integration. The practical workflow is authorized context, a reviewed draft and a human sending through Telegram.
The Tvijo offers, as of 30 Oct 2026, show Try at $0: up to 5 tasks, 50,000 tokens or $0.05 of sponsored usage, whichever is reached first, from a shared $1 daily pool funded by TVIJO. Service credit is shown as $10 for requesting prepaid credit, with metered provider usage plus an 8% service markup. Payment collection is not activated; an order is not a charge.
FAQ
Is there an official Telegram MCP server?
The named MCP repositories are community projects. Telegram documents its official Bot API separately; verify publisher identity before treating any connector as a Telegram release.
Can a Telegram bot read my existing conversations?
A bot token does not provide personal-account access. Verify the connector's actual input path and privacy settings before assuming conversation history is available.
Should an agent send Telegram messages automatically?
For this workflow, keep sending human-controlled. Restrict the agent to permitted context and draft files, then have a person verify the destination and send the approved text.
Telegram is a trademark of its owner. Tvijo is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.
