Install the Tvijo extension in your editor
Ask about a selection without leaving VS Code: the same account, the same capped task, the same receipt — and no API key stored in the editor.
🎯 Для VS Code users connecting Tvijo
- Install the extension and sign in
- Ask about a selection without leaving the editor
- Keep a provider key out of the editor

The extension turns a selection in your editor into a capped task on your Tvijo account. It does not store a provider API key, it does not run generated commands by itself, and it does not retry a paid request automatically.
🧭 Before you start
- A Tvijo account (the same one you use at
dsh.tvijo.com). - A current VS Code installation, or the TvijoCode build that already contains the extension.
- A workspace folder open in the editor — the extension's terminal starts in your first open folder, not in a home directory.
🧭 Install
- Open
dsh.tvijo.com/downloadand follow the install instructions for your editor. - Install the extension package.
- Open the command palette (
Ctrl+Shift+P) and run Tvijo: Open chat. The chat panel opens beside your code. - Sign in through the panel. The flow is the same as in the browser: an eight-character code, an approval page, an explicit confirmation.
- Ask about the selection. Use
+to attach more context; use the model control to pick a route.
The panel has its own preferences: English or Russian, and light, dark or system theme. These are local UI settings; they do not change how a task is billed.
🔹 What the editor client does and does not do
| It does | It does not |
|---|---|
| Sends your question and the context you attached | Upload your repository or scan your files |
| Shows an explicit knowledge-base upload action | Upload files automatically |
| Opens a terminal in your project folder | Start a model from that terminal, or run generated commands |
| Shows the task limit and the receipt | Retry a failed paid request on its own |
| Keeps credentials in an owner-only local file | Store a provider key in the editor |
The terminal is your shell. Opening it does not start a model and does not execute anything the model wrote. If you paste a generated command, that is your decision and your risk.
🔹 Knowledge base upload is a deliberate action
The editor can add one file to your knowledge base, and the rule is narrow on purpose: one UTF-8 regular file inside the current working directory, up to 512 KiB. Symlinks, binary content, common credential file names and text that looks like an inline credential are rejected. Nothing is scanned or uploaded in the background.
If you need to add several documents, add them one at a time and check the result of each upload. A bulk import is not an advertised feature.
🚧 When this does NOT work
- You need a key you control. The editor never collects a provider key. Connection modes currently record a pilot preference only; the route does not switch.
- You need unattended runs. One question is one capped task. There is no background agent in the extension.
- You need Microsoft-only extensions next to it. That is a TvijoCode limitation, not an extension limitation — see TvijoCode.
- You use a locked-down machine. Check with your admin first: the extension talks to the Tvijo service over HTTPS, and that egress must be allowed.
🔹 Verify it worked
- Ask a question about a function you know well.
- Confirm the answer is about that selection, not the whole file.
- Open Usage and find the task: provider, model, tokens, spend.
- Run the same question again and compare the receipt. If the second task costs noticeably more, attach less context.
➡️ Next
- TvijoCode — an editor build with the extension embedded.
- Models and routing — what the model control changes.
- Permissions and data flow — what leaves your machine.

TvijoCode: what the test build does and does not do
A VS Code build with the Tvijo extension embedded, Windows x64 only for now, unsigned, no auto-update — and a clear list of what you give up.
